Johnny Nelson is looking forward to the heavyweight clash between Moses Itauma and Filip Hrgovic.
Itauma has consistently shown that he is a talent on the rise over the last few years. At just 21 years old, he has already made his mark on the heavyweight division with 13 wins from 13 fights.
The vast majority of those have come by knockout, with most in the first round, including former world title challenger Dillian Whyte. Last time out, he became the first man to stop the durable American Jermaine Franklin, who had gone 12 rounds with Whyte and former champion Anthony Joshua.
Now he takes on Hrgovic, who has lost just once to Daniel Dubois back in June 2024, and is a solid operator who will provide the sternest test yet for the 22-year-old.
Speaking to TalkSport, Nelson got excited for the contest before siding with Itauma to come through.
“I think it’s a great fight. If [Itauma’s] as good as we think he is, he should get the job done. But it’ll be a good learning fight for him. [Hrgovic’s] performances have been consistent. He’s a tough, consistent guy.
“At times, he loses interest mid-fight. You can’t fight like that against somebody like Itauma. That’s why he’s perfect for Moses. It’s a safe one because [Itauma’s] got loads of gears. It’s the safest big risk out there.”
Should Itauma get the win, he would be well placed to kick on towards his maiden world title shot. Agit Kabayal holds the WBC belt, while Dubois is WBO champion and Murat Gassiev rules over the WBA.
