Anthony Fowler and trainer Dave Coldwell each announce their amicable split on social media
If Josh Taylor splitting from Shane McGuigan was a shock, then today’s news of super-welterweight Anthony Fowler and trainer Dave Coldwell parting ways is at least a surprise.
Coldwell has certainly improved the former GB amateur star, who has only lost once in a 12-fight pro career to date - a narrow decision setback to Scott Fitzgerald last March.
"I wanna say thanks very much to @davidcoldwell for all his help over the years," Fowler tweeted. "A real top genuine fella who’s taught me a lot over the years, really grateful."
The 28-year-old has yet to confirm a new coach but Coldwell was equally warm in his comments: "It’s been a real pleasure having @afowler06 in the Coldwell Gym, a genuinely good kid who loves boxing & gives his all to the sport. Although we’ll no longer be working together, myself, my family & the Coldwell Boxing stable wish him all the best for the future."
