WBO No.1 super-lightweight Jack Catterall has welcomed the arrival to trainer Jamie Moore’s Astley gym of heavyweight enigma Dave Allen. Moore, a former European champion and building an impressive reputation as a coach with the likes of Rocky Fielding, Carl Frampton and Catterall, has recently agreed to take on both Allen and the Doncaster man’s young protege Danny Murrell, who will turn pro once boxing resumes from the current shutdown. Catterall, eagerly awaiting his mandated shot at WBO and WBC king Jose Ramirez, believes it is the right move for Allen, who should benefit from Moore’s expertise and being surrounded by top performers.

"That’ll be interesting," Chorley’s Catterall told Seconds Out in an interview you can watch the full extent of below. "It’s been talked about in the past, him joining the camp, and Jamie rang us, he was explaining things and I think it fits for Dave. Although at our gym, there’s a lot on social media and we do have a really good laugh, we get on, the hard work gets done and I think it’s got to be that right environment for certain people where you fit in, you have a laugh, but you get to work. I think it’ll work well for Dave.
"It’s been massive for me. In the gym with the likes of Martin [Murray], Rocky, Frampton, Tommy Coyle and Jamie especially, they’ve all fought at high levels and to train alongside people preparing for world title fights, you can take a lot from that."
