Confident Australian George Kambosos Jr insists Teofimo Lopez will stay at 135lbs and should meet his IBF mandatory
IBF No. 1 lightweight George Kambosos Jr sent a message to unified champion Teofimo Lopez, on the Australian’s last night in London following the victory over Lee Selby on Saturday, which secured his mandatory position.
Since his pivotal recent win over Vasiliy Lomachenko, Lopez has talked of an immediate move up to 140lbs and a clash with either Josh Taylor or Jose Ramirez. Confident Kambosos, however, is having none of it.
“Lopez is not going anywhere,” Kambosos declared. “Lopez is staying at 135. I’ll tell you now, he’s going to see me next. He’s making weight easy, he’s got no issues making weight; he’s got a great team with Perfecting Athletes, they’re doing a great job for him, so he’s not going anywhere. He wants to make serious money, then he’s got to come see me.”
In the wide-ranging interview, Kambosos Jr also discussed this weekend’s Devin Haney vs Yuriorkis Gamboa WBC title fight, the Gervonta Davis vs Leo Santa Cruz bout and of course his own impressive win over Selby.
