Jake Paul’s team are working behind the scenes to secure him a replacement opponent for his next bout.
The 28-year-old was set to face WBA Lightweight World Champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition in less than two weeks. The controversial main event has now reportedly been pulled following kidnap and battery allegations made against Davis by an ex-partner.
Though nothing official has come from Most Valuable Promotions other than a statement confirming options are being explored, reports are emerging as to who may replace ‘Tank.’
One man targeted was former UFC Heavyweight World Champion, Francis Ngannou, who has fought twice in the professional boxing ring, losing to both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Ngannou confirmed that he had been contacted by Paul’s team but said it was a firm no.
“How can they go from Gervonta Davis to Francis Ngannou? Like, the weight difference? Come on. It makes no sense. Nakisa [Bidarian] reached out the other day and tell me how they need a replacement for Gervonta. I said, ‘okay, what can I do for you?’ I still didn’t get it … I was so confused. I’m like no, bro, come on. Don’t disrespect me like that. He sent out some number and I said it’s not about the number, I’m just not interested. It makes no sense for me … I think it’s disrespectful, not flattering.”
