Joe Calzaghe versus Carl Froch is one of the most talked about fantasy fights in the UK. Rivals Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr have both given their view on how it might play out.
Although the two super middleweight champions overlapped in their careers, the two never met in the ring.
After clearing out the super middleweight division and setting a new record for the number of defences made over a 10 year reign, Calzaghe moved up to light heavyweight for his final fights and defeated Jeff Lacy and Roy Jones Jr to retire undefeated with a 46–0 record.
Froch won several world titles at 168lbs. He defeated the likes of Mikkel Kessler, having lost in the first fight, then Jean Pascal, Lucian Bute, and famously George Groves, at first controversially, then more decisively with a clean one-punch knockout in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley in 2014, after which he retired.
Speaking to Fruity Slots, former two-weight world champion Benn picked his winner of the fantasy match-up in no uncertain terms.
“He could have fought Joe Calzaghe, but that never happened. Joe would have won that 100 percent. He was the best super middleweight of all-time.”
Unfortunately for ‘The Cobra’, fellow world champion Eubank also showed no hesitation in predicting a loss for the Nottingham man and gave a solid reason why.
“Calzaghe would’ve won every round against Carl Froch because it’s just basic math; it’s 4 to 1. It’s a simple matter of speed. And Carl won’t mind me saying that because Carl is a gentleman.”
Froch recently teased a ring return with Darren Till as a potential opponent in 2026.
