Nigel Benn is a British boxing legend who holds one super middleweight in higher regard than anyone else.

Benn had a decorated career that involved famous nights with the likes of Gerald McClellan, Iran Barkley and Michael Watson as well as Chris Eubank Sr. And now the two British legends’ sons have continued the family feud first back in April, and again in November when they fight for a second time in London.

‘The Dark Destroyer’ was the WBO middleweight title in 1990 and then reigned as the WBC super-middleweight champion from 1992 to 1996 before retiring after two losses to Steve Collins in 1996. He lost five times out of his 48 fights, but won 35 of 42 contests by KO.

Speaking recently, Benn named one super middleweight as the greatest, despite never actually having faced him in the ring.

“[Joe Calzaghe] was the best super middleweight of all time.”

Calzaghe is widely regarded by many on the same terms. The Welshman fought 46 times across his professional career and won every single fight.

He won world titles in the super middleweight division, where he defended his belt more than 20 times across a full decade, which remains a record, and then for his final two contests, moved up to light heavyweight.

Those bouts saw him beat fellow all-timers Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr to become a two-weight champion before retiring in 2008.

Ever since then, he and fellow British super middleweight Carl Froch have had heated back-and-forths about who would have won had they ever squared off.
