Nigel Benn Has No Doubt Who Wins Carl Froch vs Joe Calzaghe Fight: “100 Percent”

Nigel Benn does not believe there should be a debate around a fantasy British super-middleweight fight between Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe.

Welshman Calzaghe is the older of the two fighters, now 53, so he started his career a few years before Froch and became the WBO world champion in 1997 with a win over Chris Eubank.

He defended the belt against the likes of Robin Reid, who Froch thinks deserved the win, Riche Woodall, Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler and Sakio Bika, amongst many others, before moving up to light-heavyweight for his last two contests.

He won both against Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr before retiring undefeated after 46 contests.

Froch, now 47, won his first WBC world title in 2008 and held it until 2011, then won the IBF strap in 2012 and held onto that for three years whilst also adding the WBA belt in 2013.

His wins came over the likes of Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor with a dramatic final round knockout, Andre Dirrell, Lucien Bute, Mikkel Kessler and most famously of all George Groves.

The first fight was a controversial early stoppage, while the rematch, the last of his career, ended with a spectacular one-punch knockout at Wembley.

Speaking to Fruity Slots, former world champion Benn is confident had the two have fought, ‘The Cobra’ would not have fared well.

“He could have fought Joe Calzaghe, but that never happened. Joe would have won that 100 percent. He was the best super middleweight of all-time.”

Benn’s old rival Chris Eubank Sr agrees with him that it would have been Calzaghe’s punch output and footwork that would have eventually got the better of Froch.
