Nigel Benn has admitted that one man would be all wrong for his son Conor Benn if the pair were to fight.
Conor is fresh off the best win of his career. He just secured a near-perfect points victory over his long-time rival Chris Eubank Jr six months after losing to him in their first fight, which was a much more dramatic and all-action affair.
He is now looking towards world title level with many names in the frame, including Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia, though may have to wait due to those two men now being set to face one another instead.
It seems there is one fighter in particular that Conor may not take on though, as speaking to The Ariel Helwani Show, Benn Sr admitted that he doesn’t want his son to fight the former multi-weight world champion Devin Haney.
“I don’t want Haney, none of these. I don’t want them fighters. I want guys who are going to stand there and have a fight. Not jump around the ring. People don’t want to watch that. It’s boring. You saw what happened in New York. They want to watch two people go in there and have a fight. He’s not good for my son.”
Haney has held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including the undisputed lightweight championship and most recently the WBC super lightweight title in 2024.
He is a supremely talented fighter with a wide range of skills and it is those he often relies on, rather than power, to get his wins, with just 15 KOs from 32 victories.
A slickster such as Haney could well pose a real problem for Benn, who much prefers to engage in a physical battle.
