Number 1 Ranked Fighter Vows To Knock Out Canelo When They Fight: “He’s Been Exposed”

There are many men who have tried to get the better of Canelo Alvarez, but only two have ever managed it so far.

The Mexican has had 66 fights since turning professional, and his only losses came against Floyd Mayweather in 2013, and Dmitry Bivol when he moved up to light heavyweight in 2022.

There was also a rather controversial draw in his first fight with Gennady Golovkin, but the two rematches saw Canelo win in increasingly impressive fashion, though he has claimed they were the hardest wins of his career.

His recent run of results has seen him beat Callum Smith, John Ryder, Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga to retain his world titles in the super-middleweight division.

Speaking to PPV.com, one contender and former two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez, who is now the interim WBC champion at 175lbs, believes he can be the first man to beat Canelo by stoppage, and was asked if it was a case of his power versus Canelo’s proven punch resistance.

“I do think that but I also think that just because I’m some type of fighter doesn’t mean there aren’t new tricks I can learn. There’s some stuff that I’ve seen that can be effective against Canelo. Throwing punches in bunches, using the jab, being the bigger fighter and using the ring.

“There’s things that we’ve kind of seen Canelo get exposed by so that’s something I can implement into this fight. Whenever that fight does happen I can see there’s a perfect game plan to get a victory in that fight.”

He was asked if he could see a path to victory by decision but disagreed.

“I’m not trying to go for decision, I’m trying to knock him out, the key to victory is there, I’ve seen it already.”

‘Canelo’ has previously resisted calls to fight Benavidez, but should it happen, it would be one of the most intriguing match-ups to be made in the sport.
