The only man to ever stop Chris Eubank Jr has delivered his verdict on the upcoming Conor Benn fight.
That man was Liam Smith, a former super-welterweight world champion. The pair fought back in January 2023, not long after Eubank’s fight with Benn fell through after Benn tested positive for a banned substance.
Eubank had already lost a considerable amount of weight for that fight and remained down at that level for an extended period ahead of the Smith fight, which he later said is why he was put down and out in the fourth round.
The rematch took place in September 2023 and this time it was Eubank who got the KO win, stopping his man in the 10th round. He has also since beaten Kamil Szeremeta inside the distance and is now just weeks away from a rearranged contest with his generational rival Benn.
Speaking to Boxing News, Smith was asked what he made of the contest and sided with his old foe.
“I’m not 100% sold on the winner but I’ll probably head towards Eubank on points. Just size-wise. Conor is small, I think Chris might rob a points win, he’ll jab, he’ll be cagey. That’s his style now.
He’s not the Chris of old where he loves a fight and is ferocious and loves a high work rate. He’s cagey, he holds a lot, and I don’t think he’ll give Conor a chance.”
