Matchmaking for Moses Itauma is going to be key to how his career unfolds in the next few years.
The young heavyweight is just 20-years-old but has already shown such promise and knockout power that it would be easy to rush him into major fights that would normally be years off for professionals at such an early stage of their career.
He has had 13 fights so far, all of them wins, 11 of them by stoppage, and nine inside the first two rounds. His last outing was in August against Dillian Whyte and saw him once again get the job done early, this time inside the first two minutes, despite Whyte being a tough world-level operator.
In the immediate aftermath, Itauma suggested he was ready to fight Usyk next, and there has been plenty of debate in the sport about whether or not he is ready to step up and take on a challenge that has so far been insurmountable for anyone in world boxing.
In an appearance on talkSPORT Boxing, Itauma’s promoter Frank Warren revealed that one man who has been offered a fight with the youngster has already said no.
“He’s been offered that fight, Hrgovic. There’s two ways to say you don’t want the fight: you either say you don’t want the fight or you want a trillion pounds for it.”
Filip Hrgovic is a solid heavyweight who has only lost to Daniel Dubois, and last time out, he beat David Adeleye, having already beaten Joe Joyce in April this year, but it appears a clash against Itauma will not be coming next.
