Oscar De La Hoya has given an honest verdict on Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford.
It was revealed at the beginning of the month that Canelo will make a defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship against ‘Bud’ Crawford this September in America.
Canelo defeated former IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh on May 3, adding this strap to his WBC, WBA and WBO titles at 168lbs to achieve undisputed status for a record breaking second time in his career.
As the boxing world awaits a ‘mega-fight’ between two of the sport’s biggest stars, retired six-division world champion and promoter De La Hoya does not appear to share the same views as the majority of fans and pundits alike.
Speaking on social media, ‘The Golden Boy’ used a number of choice words to sum up Canelo’s showdown with Crawford, as he expresses his disbelief in it being described as the ‘biggest fight in boxing’.
“So hear me out.
Crawford will be 38 And Canelo is 35. Crawford hasn’t fought in a year and got exposed by Madrimov IMO. Canelo has been getting exposed for the past few years.
Can anyone please explain to me how this is the “biggest fight in boxing”?”

Canelo has received criticism for his performance against Scull, with some even claiming that the Mexican icon did not deserve to have his hand raised. The same has also been said about Crawford, who did not appear to be at his best when he defeated Israil Madrimov last August to pick up the WBA light-middleweight title.
