If Shakur Stevenson can’t make a unification fight with Gervonta Davis or Vasiliy Lomachenko he wants number one contender William Zepeda.
Zepeda, undefeated in 31, is in the unique position of holding the top ranked spot with all four major sanctioning bodies, meaning a fight with WBC Champ Shakur is very much on the table.
Stevenson – who drew criticism in his latest title defence – recently said in an interview with Cigar Talk that promoter Oscar De La Hoya and his fighter were avoiding him.
“Where is William Zepeda? Where is he? We gonna keep hyping him up cause he’s fighting these guys he’s stopping in three, four rounds cause he’s throwing volume? These dudes ain’t in the shape that I be in. Come on, bro.
If Tank gonna go fight Lomachenko why can’t I go fight the harder, maybe the harder fight, we don’t know. Maybe the harder fight just because of William Zepeda’s volume and how much punches he throw. Where is he at though?
I think they’re banking on another fight where they can win a belt. Berinchyk. They don’t want this belt.”
De La Hoya has now spoken out on the matter, saying the fight can happen next under one condition – the new promotional free agent signs with him.
“Had a great meeting with Shakur Stevenson’s representatives. William Zepeda will only fight him if Shakur is signed to Golden Boy.”

Stevenson has made it clear that he is open to entertaining all offers, but has hinted that the frontrunner could be Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom. Both Hearn and De La Hoya’s companies broadcast on DAZN.
