Oscar De La Hoya has shared his thoughts on the outcome of Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The 28-year-old from Cleveland has not fought since he defeated heavyweight icon Mike Tyson via unanimous decision last November, subsequently sending the 58-year-old into permanent retirement from boxing.
Chavez could become just the second fighter to defeat Paul and potentially squander the American’s chances of becoming a legitimate world champion in the near future.
Speaking on Power 106 Los Angeles, De La Hoya had his say on how he believes Chavez will fare against Paul, as he claims the Mexican cruiserweight is ‘doing better’.
“I can see redemption, you know because he’s had a tough life, he’s had a difficult [life] you know being the son of the father and then the expectations, the pressure, he got involved with drugs and this and that, and you know he seems like he’s doing better and he’s doing good, and I’ve seen him train lately. ”
“I’ve talked to the father and he says ‘Look, if my son shows up to the ring the way I’ve seen him in the last few months’, I think he said last six, seven months, he goes ‘Yeah he’s gonna knock out Jake Paul’.”
After the countless personal issues that he has faced outside of the ring, Chavez will have his sights set on bouncing back and proving all of the doubters wrong against ‘The Problem Child’, who is reportedly in negotiations for a showdown with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, should he be victorious over the 39-year-old Mexican next month.
