The fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia made the top five gates in Las Vegas history.

‘Tank’s seventh round stoppage of the previously undefeated Garcia was reportedly watched in 1.2 million homes in the US and by more than 20,000 fans in the T-Mobile Arena.

Despite now competing in different weight classes and Garcia serving a one-year doping suspension, those stats above mean that there will always be an appetite for a rematch.

Garcia was thoroughly out-classed on the night, touching the canvas in the second and seventh rounds before failing to make the count from a body shot.

In an interview with Club Shay Shay, his promoter Oscar De La Hoya was refreshingly honest on his chances in a potential second fight, even without the weight restrictions that he blamed for the defeat.

“Does he beat Tank if he doesn’t have the rehydration clause? I don’t know. I just do not know. Tank is very skilful, he’s a beast, he knows how to figure you out, but one thing about Tank, which I love and this is why he’s gonna be great, he fights. And when you fight, you’re gonna get hit, and you might get knocked out. That’s the beauty of Tank – he fights and that’s why they love him. That’s a perfect example. Tank Davis is a star.”

WBA Lightweight World Champion Davis is slated for a November return, though an opponent is yet to be confirmed.

Garcia will be sitting on the sidelines until at least April of 2025 after he was banned by the New York State Athletic Commission for a doping offence in his fight with Devin Haney, initially a win but now overturned to a no contest.
