Gervonta Davis has found himself in hot water with the authorities once again.
It was reported earlier this week that the 30-year-old WBA world lightweight champion from Baltimore, Maryland had been arrested on a domestic violence charge.
Davis had reportedly been in preparations for his highly-anticipated rematch against fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr, although an official date and venue for their second encounter has yet to be announced.
‘Tank’ had been arrested prior to this in December of 2022, just days before he was scheduled to face Hector Garcia in a defence of his WBA lightweight crown, although the case was eventually dropped and the fight went ahead as planned.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, legendary fighter-turned-promoter Oscar De La Hoya shared his thoughts on this shock news, as he sends a message out to Davis who he claims is one of his favourite fighters – “get your s–t together”.
“Look I actually like Tank Davis, he’s a good kid, he’s a good fighter, a great fighter actually he’s one of my favourites, yeah just get your s–t together man, that’s it you know basically, you don’t hit women man.”
It remains to be seen whether the rematch between Davis and Roach will now go ahead as planned, with the rumoured date of August 16 set to be pushed back even further.
Another man who has spoken out about Davis’ recent infraction is British contender Conor Benn, who claimed he would ‘never’ share the ring with ‘Tank’ in light of this distressing news.
