Oscar De La Hoya has had his say on the prospects of Jake Paul becoming a world champion.
Paul makes his ring return against Mexico’s former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on Saturday June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
It will be the first ring appearance for ‘The Problem Child’ since he defeated heavyweight icon Mike Tyson via unanimous decision after their controversial eight round battle at the AT&T Stadium in Texas last November.
Six-weight world champion turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya has had his say on the credentials of Paul, who has made his feelings clear about pushing towards securing himself a world title shot in the near future.
In an interview with Boxing News, De La Hoya praised ‘The Problem Child’ for the way he is navigating his professional career, admitting he believes the 28-year-old has ‘a real shot’ at capturing world honours.
“I think Jake Paul is such a genius in luring in Canelo that he had Canelo actually talk about Jake Paul so that’s a genius move from him. I think that Jake is doing the right moves for his career and I strongly feel that he is serious about boxing for the first time. I feel that Jake Paul has a real, real shot at winning a world title.”
Victory over Chavez could move ‘The Problem Child’ one step closer to achieving his career-long dream, but the former Youtube star is expected to do so in impressive fashion after being on the receiving end of some harsh criticism in recent years.
