Like many onlookers, former multi-weight world champion Oscar De La Hoya has some concerns about the controversial fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.

Tyson is one of the most iconic boxers in history and has a famous legacy built on his incredible knockout power. He became the youngest-ever world champion aged 20 and knocked out the first 19 of his opponents inside the first six rounds.

He retired after back-to-back defeats in 2005 and has had one exhibition with Roy Jones Jr since which took place in 2020.

On the other hand, Jake Paul is a YouTuber-turned-boxer who, while improving and beating novice boxers and MMA fighters, has never faced anyone close to Tyson’s calibre.

The fight will be contested over eight two-minute rounds and will appear on both men’s professional records.

Speaking to Club Shay Shay, Golden Boy Promotions CEO De La Hoya was asked if ‘Iron Mike’ was a serious opponent for Paul.

“Come on. I saw him the other day, I love Tyson, he’s got a puncher’s chance in the first three rounds. I’m a little scared of Tyson getting hurt after the third round.

Jake Paul’s a big boy, he’s 26 years old [he’s 27], Tyson’s 61 [he’s 58]. I’m happy for him that he’s making money, that he still loves it, he’s getting in there and he’s in shape, but just be careful.”

This fight was first meant to happen back in the summer but was delayed due to an ulcer flare-up for Tyson which has added further fuel to the fire for those who think he is too old to be competing in a serious boxing match.

It is now scheduled for November 15 and will be streamed live on Netflix from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
