Hall of Fame great Oscar De La Hoya has revealed exactly who he believes Ryan Garcia will be facing next.
Garcia made his return to action last month as he defeated Mario Barrios via unanimous decision to capture the WBC world welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 27-year-old from California put on the best display of his professional career to date to hand Barrios the third defeat of his tenure and finally achieve his dream of becoming a world champion.
With reports suggesting that Garcia will be making a return to the ring during the summer, the American star’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has issued a key update on what could be next.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, De La Hoya admitted that whilst he isn’t entirely sure who Garcia could fight next, he remains hopeful that a rematch with Devin Haney can be made in the near future.
“I’m sure I’ll be speaking to him soon as we do have a Ryan fight coming up … Not sure yet, not sure yet. I’m hoping it’s Devin Haney. I think that’ll be the biggest fight out there for both guys. It’s an opportunity for Devin Haney to obviously get revenge and vindicate himself but for Ryan, it’ll just put a stamp on his legacy once again.”
Garcia and Haney clashed for the first time back in April of 2024, a bout that ‘King Ryan’ was initially declared the winner of after he put on a stellar performance against his countryman in New York City.
The result was eventually overturned however when it was revealed that Garcia had tested positive for a banned substance in the lead-up to the bout. He was eventually served with a 1-year suspension and handed a fine of over £1 million.
Garcia has expressed an interest in facing Haney once again however as he previously stated that a rematch between the duo could be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.
