Jessie Vargas is interested in a unification fight with Brook.

Current WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas has confirmed that he is in talks with Matchroom Sports for a unification bout against unbeaten IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook. The fight may be scheduled to take place in Sheffield this summer but their may be a stumbling block in the negotiations as Vargas is wary about the judging system in the UK.

“I only ask that I get a fair decision,” said Vargas, according to UK tabloid The Daily Star.

“He was treated with a lot of fairness when he came to the US and I would expect the same when I go to England.

“I know it is not my hometown but we gave him respect when he came on our turf. All I deserve and want is the same respect in return.”

“I know people in England are big boxing fans and would respect a unification fight.

“If the fight was to happen in England I would come with the mentality to entertain the fans.

“I’m just hoping that in return for that I would get a fair fight and what I mean by that is fair judging.”

Brook is desperate for the big names in the sport and his promoter Eddie Hearn has been promising the fans that he will deliver a big fight for Brook in the summer. If Brook defeats Vargas and unify’s the division this may get the attention of Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Bradley and maybe Amir Khan.
However, If Vargas win’s then that put’s him in a unique position to face the big names as well, especially a rematch against Tim Bradley which had a controversially ending back in June 2015.
