Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao has shared his final verdict on the impending showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
Canelo and Crawford are just days away from doing battle for the undisputed super-middleweight championship at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Their highly anticipated ‘super-fight’ was made official back in May, just moments after Mexican icon Canelo defeated Cuba’s former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull to begin his second reign as undisputed champion at 168lbs.
‘Bud’ Crawford has spent the majority of the past decade competing at welterweight, although he is set to make the jump in to super-middleweight ahead of his clash with Alvarez on Saturday, as he bids to become a five-division world champion.
Another man that knows a thing or two about becoming a multi-weight world champion is Pacquiao, who was world champion in an incredible eight divisions.
In an interview with ESNEWS, Pacquiao didn’t hesitate to give his backing to Canelo to get the job done over the unbeaten American.
“I think [Canelo] wins the fight.”
Canelo made his super-middleweight debut back in 2018, and has competed as high as 175lbs against both Dmitry Bivol and Sergey Kovalev, while Crawford has only fought as high as 154lbs once in his entire career.
Whilst Alvarez has the chance to add yet another huge name to his resume should he defeat Crawford, the American great has his sights set on writing his own name into the boxing history books.
That is because a victory over his Mexican rival would see him become the first male fighter in the sport’s history to win an undisputed crown at three separate weight classes, having already accomplished this at welterweight and super-lightweight.
