Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will meet in a ‘super-fight’ later this year.
The pound-for-pound stars are set to lock horns on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo will make the first defence of his undisputed super-middleweight championship against the 37-year-old from Omaha, who is bidding to achieve undisputed status in a third weight class.
The build-up to the highly anticipated between Canelo and Crawford is well and truly underway, with the pair embarking on a global press tour which saw them face-off in Riyadh, New York and Las Vegas.
In a media scrum after the first press conference, Canelo heaped praise on his opponent, claiming he’s even better than the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“I think Crawford is a little better than Mayweather but I have more experience right now.”
In an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao responded to those claims.
“It’s a different style you know. I mean they’re both good fighters so it’s hard to compare yourself to others.”
Mayweather handed Canelo the first defeat of his professional career back in 2013, defeating the previously unbeaten Mexican via unanimous decision in a comprehensive performance to capture the WBC world light-middleweight title.
‘Money’ would go on to face Pacquiao in the ‘Fight of the Century’ in Las Vegas two years later, beating the Filipino icon via unanimous decision to unify the WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight titles, although the fight failed to live up to expectations and actually disappointed boxing fans and critics around the world.
