Manny Pacquiao has spoken out about a potential match-up between Gervonta Davis and Naoya Inoue.
Davis currently reigns as the WBA world lightweight champion, a title he has held since defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa six years ago. The 30-year-old from Baltimore made the most recent defence of his crown earlier this year, fighting to a split decision draw against Lamont Roach Jr.
As for Inoue, ‘The Monster’ is often regarded as being one of, if not the greatest fighter on the planet right now. The 32-year-old Japanese sensation is unbeaten in 30 fights and currently holds the undisputed super-bantamweight championship, with his most recent defence coming against Ramon Cardenas on May 4 in Las Vegas.
‘Tank’ has already shared his thoughts on a potential showdown with Inoue, claiming it would be his ‘dream fight’.
“That would be a fun fight. Now that would be technical. That fight right there, me and him… I’ll probably be too big for him, but that fight right there it’s like [a dream] fight.”
In an interview with the media, eight-division world champion Pacquiao was asked to predict what he believes would happen in a ‘super-fight’ between Davis and ‘The Monster’.
“Inoue. Inoue is fast. Inoue’s style is like when I was young.”
The Japanese great will return to the ring on September 14 as he faces former unified super-bantamweight Murodjon Akhmadaliev at the IG Arena in Nagoya.
As for Davis, the unbeaten 30-year-old is set to face Roach in a rematch next, although an official announcement on their highly anticipated second encounter is yet to be made.
