Manny Pacquiao continues to target a professional rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
It has been speculated over the last couple of months that Mayweather and Pacquiao could be in line to face each other for a second time, just under eleven years on from their first encounter.
‘Money’ Mayweather reigned supreme when he faced the Filipino great back in May of 2015, beating the eight-division world champion via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their underwhelming clash to unify the WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight titles.
Whilst Mayweather announced his retirement from professional boxing in 2017, Pacquiao fought on before retiring in 2021 and making a shock comeback to the sport last July when he fought to a draw against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
Speaking to Seconds Out about the potential return fight, Pacquiao revealed the likely location of a potential rematch with Mayweather, although it remains to be seen whether a second encounter between the legendary duo will come to fruition.
“Probably it will happen in Las Vegas.”
Mayweather has left the door open for a return to the professional side of the sport since announcing his retirement. The 48-year-old from Michigan has participated in a number of exhibition contests over the years, facing the likes of Logan Paul and Tenshin Nasukawa.
‘Money’ has reportedly signed a deal to face heavyweight great Mike Tyson this year, with reports suggesting that the American duo will lock horns in an exhibition clash in March. However, with Pacquiao’s target next bout against Rolando Romero now off the table, Floyd may be tempted to reignite his most famous rivalry.
