Manny Pacquiao Targeting One Man For March World Title Fight

Filipino great Manny Pacquiao appears to be on the verge of securing another world title shot after making his return to the ring in the summer.

The 46-year-old made a sensational comeback to the sport on July 19 after a four year hiatus, fighting to a majority decision draw against reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao put on an impressive display against the younger champion which left many viewers believing that the eight-division world champion had done enough to dethrone Barrios and become the oldest welterweight champion ever.

As rumours begin to circulate about what could be next for ‘PacMan’, the 46-year-old is said to have shown an interest in facing WBA world welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero next.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Pacquiao’s manager Sean Gibbons shared an update on the possibility of the Filipino icon clashing with Romero in the near future.

“There’s discussions for March. Rolly asked the WBA for an exception so there’s ongoing conversations for that fight … That’s at welterweight. Manny would love to better his record that he made at 40-years-old beating Keith Thurman to be the oldest welterweight champion so if we could fight Rolly that would be great.”

Romero was last in action on May 2 when he defeated countryman Ryan Garcia to capture the WBA Regular welterweight title with a career-best performance in New York City.

The 30-year-old from Las Vegas was then elevated to full WBA world champion in August after former title holder Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis vacated the belt ahead of his move up to 154lbs.
