Joseph Parker is already looking ahead to his next fight.
The New Zealander is one of the world’s most in-form fighters right now. In the last 18 months, he has beaten Zhilei Zhang despite being put down twice, and has also beaten once fearsome American knockout artist Deontay Wilder, both on points.
This past weekend, he was due to take on IBF champion Daniel Dubois, but the Brit got ill during fight week and had to be pulled from the card. Instead, Parker took on last-minute stand-in Martin Bakole who was not in camp but is himself in some good form.
However, Parker started well and caught Bakole on top of the head in the second round. The end was brought about when his trainer Billy Nelson instructed the referee to stop the fight.
In the immediate aftermath of the win, The Stomping Ground caught the moment that Derek Chisora brought Parker a burger. He is looking for a 50th and final opponent and posed Parker a question.
“Do you want to do it?”
The New Zealander didn’t hesitate to answer.
“Let’s do it, yeah.”
Chisora was then asked what he made of his former rival’s performance.
“Listen, he didn’t even come out of first gear bro.”
After a split decision points win in their first fight, in the rematch in 2022 he knocked Chisora down three times en route to a unanimous points victory. Although verbally agreeing to the fight, the New Zealander will likely be much keener to get his world title shot against Dubois, or even unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
