Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are just days away from their intriguing cruiserweight showdown.
YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul locks horns with former WBC world middleweight champion Chavez on Saturday June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Paul has not fought since he got the better of 58-year-old heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, defeating the former undisputed champion via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their controversial bout at the AT&T Stadium in Texas on November 15.
Another opponent that ‘The Problem Child’ has prevailed against is MMA legend Anderson Silva, who made the transition into boxing after a glittering career in the UFC.
Paul floored Silva in the final round of their bout in 2022 before being declared the winner via unanimous decision in what was the American’s sixth professional outing.
Just 18 months prior to his showdown with Paul, Silva faced Chavez in a light-heavyweight showdown, defeating the former middleweight champion via split decision in what was considered to be an upset victory for the Brazilian.
After facing both Paul and Chavez since he transitioned into the sport, Silva’s son Gabriel Silva revealed in an interview with ESNEWS that his father is backing the 39-year-old Mexican to be victorious.
“He’s definitely going for Chavez.
It all depends on which Chavez we’re going to get on the night of the fight. If he’s going to be focused or if he’s been lacking around.
From what I heard he’s been training at Mayweather’s gym, I know a lot of those guys in there. So you can never count that out, I don’t even know if he’s ever been dropped, a guy like Jake might not have it to put him out. It’s going to be a good fight but my dad is definitely going for Chavez.”
After a disappointing professional career, Chavez could somewhat redeem himself with a victory over Paul at the weekend, potentially squandering the 28-year-old’s chances of securing a world title shot in the near future.
