The fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis looks increasingly likely to not be going ahead.
Paul and Davis were due to meet in a 10-round exhibition bout on Friday 14 November, but after a new civil lawsuit was filed against ‘Tank’ regarding domestic allegations, it appears it will no longer be the case.
The boxing world have began to speculate about who Paul could potentially take on instead, with the likes of Anthony Joshua, Ryan Garcia and Carl Froch suggested by fans as possible alternatives.
With the fight date quickly approaching, journalist Mike Coppinger has provided the latest update on how things are shaping up.
“Gervonta Davis is expected to be withdrawn from his Nov. 14 Netflix exhibition vs Jake Paul with the event shifting to December as a new opponent is sought, sources told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger. Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 are among the dates being explored for Paul’s next event, sources said.”
He then revealed that two-weight world champion Andre Ward is one of the names that have been approached about taking the fight with Paul.
“Andre Ward was approached about his availability, sources said. Nate Diaz and Francis Ngannou are also being explored.”
Ward claimed world honours at super-middleweight and light heavyweight during his career, as he retired in June 2017 with a perfect record of 32-0.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021, and while it may be nearly a decade since he last competed, the 41-year-old has hinted recently that he has been tempted to return, having called out heavyweight star Joshua for a shock clash.
While a fight with Joshua doesn’t appear to be transpiring, time will tell whether a bout against YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul could also be enough to convince Ward to make a comeback.
