Caleb Plant has given an insight into the punching power of Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez.

The 32-year-old from Ashland City, Tennessee faced Canelo in a defence of his IBF super middleweight title in 2021, with the winner set to become the first undisputed champion of the ‘four belt era’.

Plant fell short to the Mexican superstar, suffering an eleventh round knockout defeat to lose his IBF crown and miss out on the opportunity to unify all four titles at 168lbs.

Just under 18-months later, ‘Sweethands’ clashed with Benavidez in a contest for the WBC ‘Interim’ super middleweight strap, tasting defeat for the second time in his career as ‘The Monster’ picked up a unanimous decision victory, almost stopping the 32-year-old towards the end of the bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

After feeling the thunderous power of both fighters, Plant has now spoken out and revealed who he believed hit the hardest.

Speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, ‘Sweethands’ claimed Canelo has the heavier punch, but gave plaudits to Benavidez for his shot selection and natural size.

“Canelo hits harder, David [Benavidez] puts more punches together, David’s bigger, Canelo’s got more experience I mean you can kinda keep flip-flopping with things that go their way so I’d like to see it but we’ll see.”

Benavidez has been chasing a fight against Canelo ever since he became mandatory challenger to the 34-year-old’s WBC super middleweight title back in 2023.

After a fight between the pair could not be materialised, ‘The Monster’ opted for a move up to light heavyweight where he currently holds the WBC ‘Interim’ title. The 28-year-old recently revealed he would no longer entertain a showdown with Canelo at 168lbs, claiming he ‘doesn’t care’ about the money.
