Shawn Porter has shared his thoughts on Terence Crawford‘s upcoming showdown against Canelo Alvarez.

Porter challenged ‘Bud’ for his WBO welterweight title in November 2021, where he suffered a 10th round stoppage defeat. It would go on to be Porter’s final professional outing in what was a successful professional career.

‘Showtime’ fought 36 times during his 13-year tenure, where he became a world welterweight champion on two occasions.

Ahead of his former opponent’s mega-fight against Mexican superstar Canelo, Porter has given an insight into Crawford’s chances of conquering the unified super middleweight champion when they face each other in September.

Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Porter was asked for his verdict and summed up Crawford’s chances as ’50/50′.

“It’s a 50/50 fight.

I just said it, and Terence is already taller than him and has the reach, you know. I’m telling y’all that’s a 50/50 fight, It’s actually perfect timing for both guys.

Canelo Alvarez is losing big name fighters to fight against, there’s really no-one else with a big name for him to fight against.”

It was confirmed last week that Canelo will be facing IBF super middleweight champion William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Victory over Scull would see the Mexican icon become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs, which would raise the stakes even higher for his mega-fight against ‘Bud’ later this year.

Crawford has already won world titles in four weight divisions, but undoubtedly faces the biggest test of his glittering career when he finally locks horns with Canelo.
