Shawn Porter Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Prime Mike Tyson Would Beat Muhammad Ali

Two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter has summed up Mike Tyson‘s chances of defeating Muhammad Ali in a fantasy match-up.

Tyson proved himself to be arguably the most formidable fighter on the planet during the height of his professional career, which culminated in him capturing the undisputed heavyweight championship at just 21-years-old.

Whilst he became the subject of a number of personal issues in the later stages of his tenure, ‘Iron Mike’ is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever graced the sport.

The same can also be said about the late-great Ali, who is often credited with being the greatest fighter of all time in any weight class.

The three-time world heavyweight champion dominated the division throughout the 1960s into the 1970s, producing victories over the likes of Joe Frazier and George Foreman.

Speaking to ProBox TV, Porter didn’t hesitate to back Ali to defeat Tyson in a fantasy clash, as he claims ‘The Greatest’ would have had too much for his countryman.

“I really find it hard to bet against Ali, especially in his prime. The right size, the right speed, the right reflexes, the whole nine. Tyson was vicious, you know, he saw red when the bell rang but I still don’t think that’s enough.

“I think you guys all know that the boxer that can spin and turn, use his speed, knows his distance and range, and you know when you’re somebody like Mike who’s used to getting your way. We saw Mike fold every time he didn’t get his way, we just would have saw that much sooner in his career had that been a fight against Ali.”

Tyson made a sensational comeback to the sport back in November of 2024, bringing an end to a near 20-year hiatus when he faced former YouTube star Jake Paul in a controversial heavyweight bout at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.
