Jaron Ennis vs Vergil Ortiz looks on the brink of being announced.
The two highly-rated stars are expected to meet on a Riyadh Season card in February, putting their respective undefeated records on the line.
Ennis is 33-0 with 29 knockouts and is the reigning IBF welterweight champion. He will be moving up to 154lbs for the showdown against Ortiz having last defended his belt with a unanimous decision win over Karen Chukhadzhian.
Ortiz has a record of 22-0, with 21 wins by knockout, the only time he went the distance coming in his last bout when he defeated Serhii Bohachuk to win the WBC interim super-welterweight title.
Former welterweight world champion Shawn Porter was previously asked for a prediction for the bout whilst speaking to K.O. Artist Sports, and sided with one man.
“I lean towards Boots if he was to get in the ring with Ortiz. Boots is straight up special. I’ve said this before, I think he’s the closest thing we have to Roy Jones Jr.
“It remains to be seen what he’s able to really put together throughout his career, but I’m talking about a guy that is unbelievably athletic and gifted. Gifted in every way. Speed, quickness, agility, power, anticipation, reflexes. The whole nine.
“I think Boots is the guy. I am a fan of Boots. I watched him and said ‘this dude is different.’ He’s hard to beat. With Vergil Ortiz you can pick the things he’s good at and the thing he needs to work on. I guess we haven’t seen anybody challenge Boots enough to see what he needs to work on, but is it those guys or Boots?”
Ahead of the potential showdown, the last man to get in the ring with Ennis has delivered the verdict on his power.
