Shawn Porter Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Floyd Mayweather Beats Prime Thomas Hearns

A fantasy fight between Floyd Mayweather and Thomas Hearns has been debated for quite some time.

A number of the sport’s most prominent figures have predicted what they believe would have happened if the legendary duo had crossed paths during their respective careers.

Mayweather and Hearns won a combined 16 world titles between them, ranging from super-featherweight to light-heavyweight. Hearns became the first fighter in boxing history to win a world championship across five weight divisions when he captured the WBA title at 175lbs in 1987.

‘Money’ Mayweather drew the curtain on his glittering career back in 2017, having defeated all 50 of the opponents he faced.

He beat MMA fighter Conor McGregor in the final contest of his career, but also holds victories over the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez amongst others.

Speaking to ProBox TV, former world welterweight champion Shawn Porter was asked to give his verdict on an intriguing fantasy match-up between Mayweather and Hearns.

“It is what it is y’all. Hitman takes that, it is what it is. When I went back and watched a little bit of Hitman’s career, watch like how he is originally from the amateurs and stuff like that, I truly don’t think Tommy was as skilful as you would expect given how much boxing he had done at a young age and grew up doing the sport, he wasn’t quite as skilful as I personally would have expected him to be but he knew what he was doing.”

Hearns rose to prominence during the 1980s, standing alongside Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran as one of the ‘Four Kings’.

He famously knocked out Roberto Duran in the second round of their 1982 showdown in a defence of his WBC light-middleweight title in arguably the most important victory of his career.
