Regis Prograis knows what it feels like to be in the ring with Devin Haney.
The two men met back in San Francisco in December 2019, with Prograis putting his WBC super-lightweight title on the line against ‘The Dream’ after Haney had become undisputed at lightweight and moved up a division.
It was a dominant victory for Haney, dropping Prograis in the third round and securing one-sided unanimous decision victory, paving the way for his meeting with Ryan Garcia four months later.
Things didn’t work out as well for ‘The Dream’ in that fight, as Garcia dropped his rival several times on his way to a win on points, though the result was changed to a no contest after ‘King Ry’ failed a drugs test.
The two men now look set to do battle in a highly-anticipated rematch later this year, and Prograis told Mill City Boxing that he favours Garcia to do the double.
“Yeah [I favour Ryan]. I do.”
However, he isn’t counting out his former foe.
“If Devin can beat Ryan, this fight could show Haney’s greatness If you can beat someone that beat you like that. It doesn’t matter about all the supplements, take that out, it still happened.
“We can say whatever was in his system but that fight still happened and Garcia still dropped him and hurt him three times. If Haney can come out of that and win that will really show his greatness.”
Before a rematch can take place, they must first come through bouts in the interim when they both compete on the same card in May in New York.
Haney is set to up against ex-unified 140lb champion Jose Ramirez, while Garcia takes on former WBA super-lightweight champion and previous Gervonta Davis opponent Rolly Romero.
