A respected boxing promoter has backed Ryan Garcia to savagely defeat Conor Benn should they lock horns later this year.
Garcia finally captured world honours on Saturday as he comprehensively defeated Mario Barrios to win the WBC world welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 27-year-old from California produced arguably the finest performance of his career to date to become world champion and make up for what has been a frustrating couple of years for the American star.
Benn is now expected to be ordered to face Garcia next after it was revealed back in December that the Brit was the mandatory challenger to the WBC world title at 147lbs.
A potential clash between Garcia and Benn could hit a number of obstacles however after it was announced on Friday night that ‘The Destroyer’ had signed a promotional deal with Zuffa Boxing, bringing an end to his ten year partnership with Matchroom Boxing.
Speaking on social media, promoter Lou DiBella didn’t hesitate to back Garcia to easily beat Benn should the duo go on to lock horns before the end of this year.
“Ryan would SAVAGE Conor Benn.”
Benn is set to drop back down to welterweight ahead of his return to the ring, having faced domestic rival Chris Eubank Jr at middleweight in April and November of last year.
‘The Destroyer’ defeated Eubank via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their rematch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what appears to have brought an end to the in-ring rivalry of the Benn and Eubank families.
