Kalle Sauerland is lobbying for Derek Chisora‘s fight with Deontay Wilder to be for the IBF world heavyweight title.
Right now, the belt is held by the first two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who recently vacated the WBO belt and has not yet made a defence of the IBF.
He is next out against making a voluntary defence of his WBC heavyweight title against kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven at the Pyramids of Giza on May 23.
Wilder is a former WBC ruler who held the belt for several years until he was beaten by Tyson Fury, while ‘Del Boy’ has never lifted a world title.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Sauerland is lobbying for Chisora and Wilder to have a belt on the line.
“Oleksandr Usyk has not had one single mandatory defence of the IBF in his reign as IBF heavyweight champion.
“Given Chisora’s position at the very top of the heavyweight rankings right now, and Wilder’s position as well, and given the high-profile nature of the fight it would be an amazing addition for them to be able to fight for the belt.
“That’s the politics of boxing. We will be speaking to the IBF to see whether there is something that can resolve the situation and we will be lobbying for such a move.”
Much loved veteran Chisora has fought just once before for a full world title, and that was against Fury in 2022 when he lost by TKO in the 10th round.
