Tyson Fury faces one of the most significant challenges of his career this month in the form of a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. Should he manage to reverse the result from their first meeting, ‘The Gypsy King’ will be back on top of the heavyweight division with plenty of options for his next move.
Fury lost to Usyk back in May, getting rocked heavily in the ninth round before losing a split decision and the chance to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades.
If he manages to solve the unique puzzle the Ukrainian presents in their return fight in a few weeks, Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh has a bold plan for the big Brit.
Speaking to the Ariel and Ade Show, Alalshikh revealed that he would like to welcome another Ukrainian in Wladimir Klitschko back to the sport for the chance to break George Foreman’s record of the oldest heavyweight champion of the world.
“The result of Tyson vs Usyk, a lot of people are waiting for them. One of them is Dubois. Another is Joshua. At the same time, there is a third person.
I am dreaming of seeing this fight to give chance if he accepts to give Klitschko to give back to be the oldest heavyweight champion ever. To give him the chance. This is perfect. Of course, he won’t fight Usyk if he wins because they’re two heroes from Ukraine will not fight each other. This is the dream.
Fury has a lot of people that want him in the line. Klitschko, all the people want to see it from 2015 again, and tehre’s also Joshua, which would be the hugest Britain fight ever [against Fury]. Of course, Dubois deserves this chance. Let’s see.”
Wladimir and his brother Vitali dominated the division in what became known as the Klitschko era. Wlad’s run was ended by Fury in 2015, who travelled to Germany to dethrone him against the odds. He competed just once more in a thrilling but unsuccessful fire fight against Anthony Joshua two years later.
Klitschko, 48, has also recently been linked with Daniel Dubois, who was elevated to IBF Champion when Usyk vacated the belt and is coming off a career-best knockout of Joshua. Talks ultimately fell apart and Dubois instead faces Joseph Parker on February 22.
For the Klitschko rematch to be a genuine possibility, Fury must become the first man to defeat Usyk on December 21.
