Ricky Hatton Delivers Honest Verdict On Anthony Joshua’s Future After Brutal Daniel Dubois KO

Daniel Dubois shocked the world when he knocked out Anthony Joshua to retain his IBF title.

‘DDD’ dominated proceedings from the opening bell and landed a huge right hand on the chin of AJ with just moments left in the first round. Joshua was sent to the canvas but got to his feet to survive.

Dubois would have his man down a further two times before landing the final blow in the fifth when he was under heavy fire himself for the first time in the fight.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, British boxing legend Ricky Hatton said the jab was the difference.

“Dubois’ jab was fantastic, drilling the jab. I was saying Joshua needs more right hands and then he went bang and hit him with a right hand and then he got nailed himself, incredible. i was always a pressure and the only thing that worried me was is someone was drilling me on the way in, AJ was just pawing with the jab and that’s why Daniel was coming through him, he needed to start throwing back hands to stop him in his tracks and the minute he landed one Daniel wobbled but the fight was over.”

On whether Joshua can come back, Hatton said he would like to see his friend hang up the gloves.

“I’m shell shocked, just when you though the tide had turned. I don’t know [if there is anyway back for Joshua], he’ll stay with his camp, have a talk, maybe not. Personally, as a friend, I’d like to see him retire. He’s been a two-weight world champion he’s had a fantastic night here, 96,000 against a fellow Brit, I don’t want to see him get hurt again.”

Eddie Hearn revealed that Joshua has a rematch option and he fully expects his man to trigger it.
