Terence Crawford will make a bold jump up in weight to face Canelo Alvarez in September.
Crawford is a four-weight world champion, having picked up world honours at lightweight, super-lightweight, welterweight and super-welterweight in his career to date.
‘Bud’ also claimed undisputed status at 140lbs and 147lbs, helping to secure his position as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
Having competed at 154lbs in his last outing, Crawford will now make the ambitious move up two weight divisions when he heads to 168lbs to face unified super-middleweight king Canelo later this year in a bid to become a five-weight world champion.
The fight could even give Crawford the opportunity to be a three-weight undisputed champion, with WBC, WBA and WBO champion Canelo first in action in May when he faces IBF champion William Scull.
‘Bud’ last fought in August, where he defeated Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision to win the WBA super-welterweight title in Los Angeles.
Madrimov competes for the first time since that defeat when he faces Vergil Ortiz in Saudi Arabia this weekend, on the Artur Beterbiev v. Dmitry Bivol rematch card.
Crawford is also in attendance to watch the event, and in a clip posted on Instagram, Madrimov was shocked at the new size of his former opponent when they crossed paths.
“Wow. You look bigger!”

Madrimov isn’t the only one stunned by Crawford’s appearance, as ‘Bud’ already surprised boxing fans earlier this month, when he revealed exactly what he weighs with seven months to go until the showdown against Canelo.
