Devin Haney’s loss to Ryan Garcia is still causing plenty of controversy, almost three months after the final bell sounded.

Even before WBC super lightweight champion Haney stepped into the ring with challenger Garcia, this fight had plenty of people talking. Garcia’s behaviour in the run-up to it was widely erratic and generated plenty of headlines, not least when he failed to make weight and was seen drinking beer on the scales the day before the fight.

The contest itself was no less dramatic with Garcia putting Haney down a total of three times on his way to a points victory. Soon afterwards, however, it emerged that Garcia had tested positive for a banned substance both before and after the contest and he has since been suspended for 12 months and the fight ruled a no-contest.

Regis Prograis fought Haney before Garcia and surrendered his world title in the process.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, he described the whole situation as ‘wild.’

“Everything going on is a circus. I don’t know man. I saw Devin dancing. The stories get wilder and wilder. It’s crazy sh*t over there. I don’t know what to think. Sometimes Ryan seems normal and sometimes he’s not normal and something’s going on with him.”

He then explained that what had happened to his victor was ‘karma.’

“With my fight we fought in California. Devin was way too big. The fight wasn’t really supposed to happen. What he did to me basically Ryan did to him, the weight stuff. Ryan missed the 3lbs on purpose so he could come in big and that’s what Devin did to me. But whatever he got caught with, that’s a whole different thing.”

While Haney has said he is taking some time out, Prograis will face Jack Catterall on August 24 in Manchester, England.
