Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach are expected to meet in a highly-anticipated rematch later this summer.

‘Tank’ and Roach first met at the Barclays Center in New York back in March, in a fight that many fans expected to be a straightforward title defence for WBA lightweight champion Davis.

It turned out to be anything but straightforward though, as ‘Tank’ was pushed all the way throughout 12 hard-fought rounds, as the fight ended in a majority decision draw.

A controversial moment came in the ninth round, when Davis voluntarily took a knee, but no knockdown was scored by the referee, something that proved crucial to the scoring of the bout had a 10-8 round been given.

Roach became just the second man to go the full 12-round distance with Davis, and the only man that ‘Tank’ has failed to beat throughout his 31 fights.

Having experienced what it was like to share 36 minutes with Davis, Roach has now revealed there is one man from his career that punches even harder.

“No. I ain’t shi*ing on him or anything like that. He can punch, but Jonathan Oquendo, he’s from Puerto Rico. He’s got bricks in his hands. He punched hard, I ain’t going to lie.”

Roach fought Oquendo back in May 2019, winning by unanimous decision. Oquendo has a record of 31 wins and 9 defeats, with just 19 of those wins coming by knockout, potentially making it a surprise claim from Roach.

Roach will get another chance to experience the power of Davis when they have their rematch, which is expected to take place on August 16.
