Top trainer Robert Garcia has changed his prediction for the upcoming showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

It has now been confirmed that the pound-for-pound stars will do battle on Saturday September 13 in Las Vegas, with the venue set to be made official in due course.

The fight itself, which will be contested for Canelo’s undisputed super-middleweight championship, will be co-promoted by Riyadh Season, Dana White’s TKO Promotions and Sela, and will be shown live on Netflix across the planet.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Robert Garcia initially claimed that he believes the physical strength of Mexican icon Canelo will be too much for Crawford on the night.

“He’ll put up a good fight. I probably don’t see him winning, but I do see him putting up a good six, eight rounds. I think he’ll put up some good rounds. After that, I see Canelo taking over, but I think those first six rounds would be very close, maybe Crawford would be ahead. I think he could win some rounds against Canelo.

Terence is very strong physically and mentally … I think Canelo’s power and strength in the late rounds, that’s where Crawford starts to get into trouble.”

However, in a shock u-turn, Garcia has now given his full support to ‘Bud’ Crawford, who is faced with unquestionably the toughest test of his career, via ES News.

“Obviously Canelo’s the favourite and everything, but me, I truly believe that Crawford’s gonna pull it off because this is the fight that makes him, he becomes the three division undisputed [champion], he makes f—–g history, he becomes one of the greatest of all times and he’s gonna be so ready for it.”

Victory for Crawford would see the 37-year-old from Omaha capture an undisputed championship in a third weight class, becoming the first male fighter in the history of boxing to accomplish this impressive feat.
