Anthony Joshua‘s next plans are currently unknown.
Joshua lost in his attempt to become a three-time heavyweight champion when he was stopped in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois for the IBF title at Wembley Stadium in September.
It was thought that ‘AJ’ may have an immediate rematch with Dubois, but instead those plans have changed and Joshua is now set to return next summer.
Robert Garcia trained Joshua for his unsuccessful rematch with Oleksandr Usyk back in August 2022, and he has had his say on what his former fighter should do next.
Garcia began by telling Fight Hub TV that he was surprised to see Joshua lose to Dubois.
“After the last year where AJ had four good wins and four great performances, I thought nobody at heavyweight would beat him. He was on a roll and performing and looking so good.
“Activity was what he needed and I was 100% sure he would beat Dubois. The way he was performing I thought he could beat Fury and could beat Usyk. Now things go back.”
He then named the first man that Joshua should target a fight with.
“I think he has two fights out there that I would love him to fight. One of them is against Wilder. We all wanted that fight and we all would have loved to see it a few years back, but I would still like to see it.”
Should he be successful against Deontay Wilder – who is coming off back-to-back losses against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang – Garcia then suggested Tyson Fury as the other man for ‘AJ’ to target.
“Fury, it would be huge in the UK, and for us here in the States I would love to see it. Those two fights are still big for him.
“Maybe not in the direction where he could still come back and take his time and become champion again, that could take a few more challenges. Just focus on those two big fights.
“Challenge Wilder to a huge fight and make huge money, and then go against Fury and kill it with the money. Those are the two fights and I wouldn’t mind watching them.”
While it is currently unknown who Joshua will fight next, his promoter Eddie Hearn still believes it could be Dubois.
