Anthony Joshua suffered his fourth career defeat this past weekend when he was knocked out by IBF world champion Daniel Dubois.

Although entering the ring as the challenger, Joshua was the heavy favourite before the contest. Against the odds, Dubois landed a huge right hand at the end of the first round which sent AJ to the canvas seemingly never to fully recover.

He would be knocked down a further two times before ‘DDD’ landed the final blow in the fifth round when Joshua had his man hurt but left his chin wide open attempting to throw an uppercut.

Speaking to ESNEWS, Joshua’s former trainer Robert Garcia, who was in the corner for his rematch loss to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, was shocked by the outcome.

“That was a crazy fight. I thought he was going to knock that guy [Dubois] out, I thought he was going to become champion again, I really believed that, I would never have thought he would get beat like that.

All those fights he has last year and start of this year with good wins and knockouts, the rhythm was there, I really thought he was going to become world champion again and then fight the winner of Usyk versus Fury.

He almost had Dubois out, he caught him but he made the mistake of leaning with the uppercut and leaving his chin out, it happens in boxing.”

When asked if the 34-year-old should now hang up the gloves, Garcia was adamant that AJ can still come back and said the Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder fights will always be there for him.

No [he shouldn’t retire]! The Fury fight is still a huge fight for him. Even if Fury loses to Usyk again they fight each other in England and that’s huge, they could sell 200,000 tickets if they fight each other.

Another big fight for Anthony is Wilder also. That’s two huge fights no matter what happened in their last fights, Fury and Wilder, both fights are huge for Joshua in England. He can still win those fights because he’s got great power.”

Joshua has since announced his desire to carry on boxing and his promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that they may target a rematch.
