Manny Pacquiao is hours away from making his sensational return to the sport.
The 46-year-old from the Philippines is set to challenge reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios this Saturday July 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
‘Pac-Man’ is set to put an end to four years of inactivity and resume his professional boxing career, after his last outing against former WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas ended in defeat.
The eight-division world champion’s impending return has got the boxing world talking, with many fans and analysts left wondering whether the 46-year-old great is making the right decision going into his showdown with ‘El Azteca’.
In an interview with Fight Hype, respected trainer Robert Garcia shared his thoughts on Pacquiao’s return, as he claims the Filipino icon must look to close the show early if he is going to be in with a chance of winning.
“Barrios is strong, Pacquiao is 46, I think Pacquiao wins because he does have a chance of winning because he’s fast and strong, it’s gotta be under four or five rounds, because if it goes past that then his legs, his conditioning could go in favour of Barrios, that’s the way I think man, that’s the way I see it. If Pacquiao wins it’s gotta be under four or five rounds.”
Should Pacquiao be successful against Barrios, he will become the oldest welterweight champion of all time, breaking the record that he set back in 2019 when he outpointed former WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman at 40-years-old.
