Highly-rated coach Robert Garcia has predicted the outcome of a match-up between Devin Haney and Conor Benn.
Benn is set to make the move back down to welterweight ahead of his next outing, potentially setting up a showdown with Haney in 2026.
‘The Dream’ captured world honours at 147lbs last month when he defeated countryman Brian Norman Jr via unanimous decision to win the WBO world welterweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 22.
As for Benn, the 29-year-old Brit was last in action on November 15 when he defeated fierce rival Chris Eubank Jr in their highly anticipated rematch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, bringing an end to their bitter feud.
One man who has had his say on a potential Haney vs. Benn clash is top trainer Garcia, who whilst talking to ESNEWS, first spoke fondly of Benn as he claims ‘The Destroyer’ is a ‘tough dude’ following his rematch win over Eubank.
“Conor Benn’s a tough dude man. Tough dude. He had a f**king great win. He lost the first one and now he came back and won. Very impressive.”
Garcia then shared his prediction for a potential clash between Haney and Benn, where he gives his backing to ‘The Dream’.
“Man, I think Devin Haney but Conor Benn is tough man. He’s a tough dude. He’s a warrior. He has a big heart but I think Devin Haney’s skills are a little bit better than him so I think Devin Haney pulls it off.”
Benn is now expected to drop back down to welterweight after he faced Eubank at the middleweight limit in both of their encounters.
Aside from Haney, the 29-year-old has set his sights on locking horns with the likes of WBA welterweight champion Rolando Romero and WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios next, and was recently named the mandatory challenger for the winner of the WBC title fight between Barrios and Ryan Garcia.
