Roman destroys Kubo for the WBA Super Bantam belt

Daniel Roman (23-2-1 with 9 KO’s) battered the previously unbeaten Shun Kobo (12-1 with 9 KO’s) in Japan on Sunday, winning the WBA “regular” Super Batamweight championship with a ninth round stoppage.

It was Kobo’s first defense of the belt (he won it from Nehomar Cermeno in April) but he was absolutely no match for the rampaging Roman. Kobo hit the deck twice prior to the bout being waved off and in reality it could have ended sooner.

Roman will now look ahead to potential clash with WBA “Super” Champion, Guillermo Rigondeaux. Rigo is set to meet Vasyl Lomachenko in December so may end up giving up his belt and the WBA will probably sanction Moises Flores (previous interim champ) to meet Roman. As usual it is a complicated process but Roman will not worry about that just yet, for now he can enjoy the fact he is world champion.
