Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr are on the bring of finalising their highly anticipated rematch.

‘Tank’ Davis successfully retained his WBA world lightweight title against Roach when they clashed on March 1, despite the result being declared a split decision draw after 12 entertaining rounds at the Barclays Center in New York.

‘The Reaper’ appeared to force Davis into taking a knee midway through the ninth round, although referee Steve Willis made the bizarre decision not to call an official knockdown, prompting calls for a rematch to take place between the pair at the earliest opportunity.

Ahead of their imminent second encounter, reigning WBC world lightweight champion believes he knows who will come out on top this time around, as revealed in an interview with K.O. Artist Sports.

“I like Lamont in the rematch. I sparred with Lamont and I knew that he was a good fighter.”

Another prominent figure within the sport who has had their say on the upcoming rematch is retired four-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr, who admitted in an interview with Pro Boxing Fans that he expects Roach to shock the world again, but believes Davis will make the necessary adjustments to give him the best chance of bouncing back.

“I think he [Roach] shocks the world again, but the only thing different this time is Tank will come with a different attitude, a different personality, different motivation, and I think Roach will do good again but I think Tank will be more dominant this time.”

Although the rematch is yet to be officially announced, it is expected that it will happen at some point in June or July. Roach will have his sights set on going a step further and dethroning ‘Tank’ but the WBA lightweight champion is likely to do everything in his power to keep a hold of his crown and ensure his unbeaten record remains intact.
