Hall of Fame great Roy Jones Jr has revealed the one thing that may lure him back into the ring.
The 56-year-old from Florida established himself as one of, if not the best fighter on the planet during the height of his professional career, winning world titles in four weight classes along the way.
The bulk of Jones’ success came during the 1990s where he produced legacy-defining wins over the likes of Mike McCallum, James Toney and Bernard Hopkins to name just a few.
Jones’ last official ring appearance came in April of 2023 when he suffered a majority decision defeat to former UFC lightweight champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis at the Fiserv Forum in Wisconsin.
Speaking on the Clubhouse Boxing podcast, Jones admitted that the only way he could be tempted into making a return to the sport is if it was for a charitable cause, as he reveals there are ongoing talks about him potentially making a comeback.
“It’s funny you say that because I have a group of people that have contacted me right now and they’re talking about doing a fight to help raise money against the children’s sex slave industry, the situations going on with people being kidnapped, organs sold and all this.
For me, regular boxing, no. I don’t want to box again. I’m really cool with my boxing. I think I did more than enough. But if a situation like that – where it helps kids, it helps somebody comes up and there’s an opportunity – I can’t tell you I’m gonna run from it, because I ain’t never duck and dodge nothing and I still won’t duck and dodge nothing
“So if it’s a right situation and it’s a great opportunity, then I can’t say I wouldn’t. I don’t plan on it but the way they talking, if they do what they say they gonna do, they might trick me back in there. I don’t know.”
Prior to his most recent professional bout against Pettis. Jones fought an exhibition against former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in November of 2020.
